The Boreal is the world’s largest land-based biome. This forest emerged about 10,000 years ago, and is home to over 30,000 different species. Over 500 indigenous communities live in the boreal region, and 80% of the world’s freshwater supply is found there. Overall, the Boreal forests represent a whopping 25% of the world’s forest cover!
The Boreal Forest is unique to donate toward because of how well it has been preserved. The Canadian Boreal Forest Agreement has ensured the protection of over 170 million acres of Canada’s Boreal forest over the past five years. That’s nearly the size of Texas!
