One Tree Planted is a non-profit organization focused on global reforestation. The charity was created in 2014 and aimed to make a place for people around the world to donate. The goal of One Tree Planted is to help individuals and businesses make real progress towards a greener world. For every dollar donated, one tree is planted in one of their planting locations around the world
Our group, the Green Gals have set up a fundraising page for anyone to donate and help us reach our goal. This is part of a project known as the Lexus Eco Challenge, a nationwide competition sponsored by Scholastic and Lexus, aiming to involve students in environmental education. Our group, consisting of Sadie Rowe, Hailey Van Auken, Piper Landon, Devon Wilkins, and Kaitlin Hicks, won the first challenge of the Lexus Eco Challenge. We have now moved on to the second part of the competition, a final opportunity for the winning middle school teams to either build upon their last project or start a new one. We decided to switch directions for our topic and work more on a global issue than we did on our previous project. Brainstorming was a key process in finding a new topic, so we tried to focus on something we were truly passionate about. Our community is surrounded by thick, lush forests and protecting them are very important to us. In class, we are learning about climate change and the devastating effects. When traced back, the root of every problem seemed to be increased deforestation. Our group wants to make a difference in our school’s, community’s, and state’s environment, so we chose deforestation as our new topic. We have created this page in hopes of providing a place for our friends and family members to donate and help reforest our Earth. We greatly appreciate your time and donation and can't wait to see what we can accomplish together.
